Chiropractic Doctors not only deal with disorders of the musculoskeletal system, but also with factors that affect overall health such as diet, exercise, rest, environment, and heredity. This approach in treating health problems is distinct from that of standard medicine. The goal of Chiropractic is to establish an equilibrium between the body’s structure and function, thus allowing the body to harness it’s powerful self-healing abilities. Dr. Martinez’ chiropractic treatments consist of a variety of natural healing therapies including spinal and joint mobilization, including gentle, low force adjusting techniques, Myofascial Release Technique, Active Release Technique, restorative stretching, therapeutic yoga postures, nutritional guidance and recommendations, sharing knowledge of/and recommendations for homeopathic medicine, and for expectant mothers, knowledge and experience in Webster’s Technique.

Active Release and Myofascial Release techniques:
During treatment, Dr. M may utilize Myofascial Release and Active Release Techniques. This involves an assessment of the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves.

Treatment consists of manual lengthening of specific anatomical areas. The goal is to stretch the fascia which is located between the skin and the underlying muscle and bone structure.

Fascia is very densely woven, covering and interpenetrating every muscle, bone, nerve, artery and vein as well as all of our internal organs including the heart, lungs, brain and spinal cord. The most interesting aspect of the fascial system is that it is actually one structure, from head to foot without interruption.

In the normal healthy state, the fascia is relaxed and has the ability to stretch and move without restriction. When we experience physical trauma, scarring, or inflammation, however, the fascia loses its pliability. It becomes tight, restricted and places tension on the rest of the body. Changes in the fascial system influences how our body functions. When the fascia is adversly affected it exerts excessive pressure, producing pain or restriction of motion. This affects our flexibility and stability, and is a determining factor in our ability to withstand stress and strain.

Myofascial treatments along with chiropractic adjustments allow connective tissue to reorganize, decreasing pain, restoring optimal function, flexibility, and range of motion.
